RPI Reunion 2001

The RPI reunion was fun!  I met up with my core set of friends from college (all living in the Boston area) and we made a long weekend out of the RPI reunion.  Mostly we just toured the campus, checking out the buildings that haven't changed, the buildings that have and even a totally new building.  Only about 30 people from our class year attended and we hooked up with a few acquaintances as we came across them.  We also stayed in one of the old dorms for that nostalgic feeling.  All said, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, although it would've been that much greater if more 1996ers had shown up.  Ten year reunion, here we come!

At the end of the reunion stuff, we had a picnic at Eric's & Lisa's house.  They did a great job, made great food and provided stimulating entertainment (in the form of Bocce ball and mosquito swatting).  I was also under contract to snag some pictures of Connie's flower planting frenzy.  (Late addition: Travesty & Triumph at Reunion.)

If you'd like 1024x768 resolution versions of all of these pictures (plus more), contact me.

This is the start of our first day back on campus.  After crossing over the bridge, we headed towards the CII.

After traversing the crooked stairs, we wound around the athletic field.  Off in the distance, you can see the Ricketts Building.

Across the street, passing E Dorms and North Hall, we had to go to the Hefner Alumni House for registration.

Never, ever let your friends ad-lib.

The Troy Building was completely gutted and rebuilt inside.  One of the new features was this computer enabled studio style classroom.

We passed by Russell Sage and Walker Labs and stopped at the top of the stairs that lead to the Pittsburgh Building.  The only time I had to go down those stairs was for class registration.  UGH.

The Approach!  Originally constructed in 1907, it was almost completely destroyed by the time I was at RPI.  Now, they have restored it and it looks awesome.

West Hall.

So evil, it forced me to show it twice.

Kryptonite should use this as an advertisement.  Placed there at some point during my 4 years, it remains steadfast today.

After the long hike up from the base of the Approach and back through campus, we were actually happy to get into the dorms.

We stayed in Davison.  Most of us had been in there at one time or another during our stay at RPI.

And for once, our dream came true.  We had nearly the whole floor to ourselves!

The merriment ended upon finding that some things never change.

Our dubious graduations weren't enough, so we left our mark this way.  The impermanence of chalk seems fitting.  (Eric: Note that I fixed the "D" in post production.  :-)

Chillin' in the common area, we have Jeff...

Eric...

Studly Lou... ahem, "Luis"...

Lisa... and Scott's legs!  (What's up with the red & white polka dots?  They're actually penguins.  Is that better?)

Bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning... Lou looks like he's moved in again.

Parting ways with Davison, we checked out the new dorm, Barton Hall.  It's absolutely gorgeous, but the individual rooms are not much different from Bray, Cary, etc.

Hi-ho!  Hi-ho!  It's off to Father's we go!

The newly revitalized Union.  I'm not sure I care for the changes... the charm was sanitized from the building.

Around Noon, the parade of classes started to form.  Being the antisocial group we are, we decided to hide on the 9th floor of the CII.

And from the 9th floor of the CII, we have the PUCK!

Eric convinced us to join the parade, since 1996 was looking weak.  I think Scott called this "poetic justice."  I just like the fact that the word ass stands out.

Some of our old friends... Jameelah and Irene.

We had to wear wristbands to get lunch.  We thought Lou's ass made a good carrying case for them.

Hey, it's Steve!  Along with Jon, he founded ReQuest.  Check them out.

This is the big lunch, held in the Armory.  The food was good, actually.

Here we have Joe and Jacqueline talking to Lisa.

OK, so this guy was class of 1923.  One word: HARDCORE.

After the lunch, we headed back through the buildings, stopping in the CDC to see the big room.  Can you say Chem I?

Finding our way into the tunnel system was challenging...

But we eventually made it through from the CII, through the CDC and JEC, popping out at the Science Center.

The heart & soul of RPI... a gutted out church with computers stuffed in.  :-)

Making our way up to Folsom Library...

we find that it's locked.  The only time we *want* to get in, we can't.

Another chunk of the class of 1996 happened by, so we snagged `em.

We finished our 2nd day of campus touring in the Quad.

Under the arch, hit the Union... and enjoy some Ben & Jerry's!
