PAX - 2004

The first annual Penny Arcade Exposition was held at the Meydenbauer Convention Center in Bellevue, Washington.  Penny Arcade is a well known web comic that focuses on gamers.  These guys have grown quite a bit over the years such that they can put on a huge show like this.  There was open gaming, tournaments, music, movies and BAWLS.  Unfortunately, there aren't that many really good pictures...

Mark and I decided to drive up as part of the West Coast SuperTrip.  I was the Portland waypoint captain... the last before Bellevue.  The people in this picture rode in my minivan.

I was originally going to take the Acura, but that girl standing there was an Omeganaut and her ride fell through at the last second.  DJ to the rescue...

We lined up the cars to get some kind of shot for someone's video camera.

And this is pretty much the entire WCST contingent.  The guy in the cape is Red Machine D.  He was the concept guy.  He's also internet famous now... this was filmed at PAX.  I was on that DDR machine.  That dude was in my car.  He broke his ankle.

I believe we are just arriving in the parking lot for the hotel here.

I think it's clear that this car is driven by a PA fan.  You can tell, because of the angle at which it's parked and the fact that the interior is so clean.  Oh, yeah, and the Fruit Fucker.

And this is the convention center.  OK, I have to brag a little... this is what the original picture looked like.

The line was MASSIVE.  It is said to be truth that there were exactly 1337 (->leet->elite) pre-registrants.  Hard to believe.

We finally get in.  Mark's friend Eric met us there.

And Jonathan came along for a day as well.

And Phil (far left) finally showed up to.  This is us on our way to some lunch at Rock Bottom.

We visited LanWerX a few times.  The set up was actually quite nice.

Here's Mark going old school.
These five pics are all of Omegathon tournament play.  The top three are of the Smash Brothers round.  The two on the side here are DDR.  I had my vote in for the guy on the left, Josh.  As the only guy in his 30s, I felt compelled to pick him.  He actually made it to the penultimate round of Doom, along with Tina, the girl in my car.

Random shot...

File this under: "There's something you don't see every day."  I mean, seriously... WTF?

And these are some of the FragDolls.  That's Brookelyn, Eekers and Seppuku, though I suppose the girl on the far left could be Katscratch.
